Deaf Child Prohibited From Signing His Own Name Because It Looks Like a Gun — Is It Fair?

According to the boys preschool the sign for his name violates their no-weapons policy!

My son's not deaf but he uses sign language all the time. It was something we taught him right out of the gate, it's proven that children that can sign make friends easier, are more tolerant & have a higher IQ. So if someone told me he wasn't allowed to use his signs, I would find him a new place to go to school.

Especially if he was deaf & it was his only form of communication! The boy's father says the whole matter is "ridiculous" and the ACLU & National Association of the Deaf have offered to assist if legal action is needed.

I understand the zero tolerance policy schools have to take in today's society towards guns but sometimes I think they take it to far! What about you? Do you agree or disagree with the schools policy?
