"Cool Jazz," a quartet consisting of Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra members, will present a benefit concert at the new venue, "On Stage at Back Porch Music," on Thursday, August 30th, at 7 p.m., benefiting the Robert "Bob" Grant Memorial Scholarship.

"Cool Jazz" will perform all 7 movements of Claude Bolling's "Suite for Flute and Piano" at this free concert.  The Claude Bolling suites, originally recorded in 1976, spent 530 weeks on the Billboard Album charts.  This performance will feature Shelley Warren on flute, Amy Markakis on piano, Rob Labig on drums, and KEKB's Waylon Jordan on bass.

Over the last 14 years, "Cool Jazz" has performed a number of concerts all over Western Colorado.  However, the group's primary mission has been to perform at area schools, encouraging students to enroll in school music programs.

This free concert is coming to the new venue, On Stage at Back Porch Music, located at 995 Independent Avenue in Grand Junction.  While the concert is free, donations are greatly appreciated, with all proceeds going to the Robert "Bob" Grant Memorial Scholarship, a full-tuition and fees music scholarship to Colorado Mesa University.  Music starts at 7 p.m.  Seating is limited.  For more information about the concert or the scholarship, call (970)261-2236.  Information about the venue can be found at www.backporchmusicstore.com.
