You're probably beginning to wonder if it actually rains in the state of Colorado. For the first time in a long time, video footage shows evidence of rainfall in Western Colorado.

I was beginning to wonder myself, and I was born here over 48 years ago. Just when I was beginning to forget what rain was, Mother Nature kicked in and treated us to a nice 30-minute shower.

Regrettably, this wasn't in the Grand Valley, This footage was shot at Arrowhead Mountain Lodge, just outside of Cimarron, Colorado, last Saturday, July 14.

When we pulled into Arrowhead, it was cool but dry as a bone. Then, out of nowhere, POOF! What began as a light sprinkle rapidly turned into a full-blown, no doubt about it rainfall.

The chatter you hear in the background is a couple of band geeks trying to find out how to get their new automated mixer to work. Pay no attention to that. Do listen, however, to the magnificent sound of rain.

Soak it up, all of it (pun intended). That's about the only rain we're going to see for a while. According to the National Weather Service, the forecast for the next few days includes:

  • Wednesday - Sunny and hot, with a high near 99
  • Thursday - Sunny and hot, with a high near 102
  • Friday - Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 101
  • Saturday - Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 98
  • Sunday - Partly sunny and hot, with a high near 97

The way it looks right now, the only rain you're going to see in Colorado is that in the video at top. If your friends or family are doubting if Colorado has ever seen rain in its history, show them the video. It's not much, but it does provide some evidence we've seen rain before.
