So, you want to hike a fourteener, do you? Well, don't forget about THIS one.

At 14,011 feet it still counts. Although, it is mostly referred to as 'Colorado's Lost National Monument.'

The undeniable snow pattern identifies this place immediately.  The cross-shaped white alignment makes this mountain one of a kind. Actually, it's one of a kind for two reasons.

On May 11, 1929, Herbert Hoover proclaimed it as 'Holy Cross National Monument.' It was then taken over by the National Park Service in 1933. However, in 1950, due to the low number of visitors and the cost of staffing the monument could not advocate. Therefore, it was stripped of its title of a National Monument. How rude, right?

I jumped on Wikipedia to read more about this place. Check it out here if you want.

Regardless if it doesn't have the official title anymore, this mountain will always be a champion. It can access and hiked by four different routes. The most common and easiest are the North Ridge.

So, don't forget about this 'lost' treasure when you are making your list of fourteeners you have to see in Colorado.
