Ute Heritage on Display at Colorado’s Uncompahgre Pow Wow
If you live in Western Colorado, you probably love learning about the history and legends of the Ute Indians. We hike their trails, we look at their petroglyphs and pictograms, we see their thunderbird on the Grand Mesa. We take the dirt with us when we leave the valley.
Drums, dancers, and the call of songs shared for generations will be on display at Western Colorado’s Uncompahgre Pow Wow this October. Keep scrolling to learn how you can watch old traditional Ute dance performances and strengthen our connection to the history that still shapes the Western Slope.

October’s Uncompahgre Pow Wow will feature an Old Traditional Ute Dance passed down through generations. Seeing it performed live is a rare chance to see the Ute tradition alive and in motion. Showing up to support the Pow Wow honors those who lived in these valleys before us, and teaches younger dancers and audiences.

Where & When to Attend in Montrose
Our thanks go out to the Western Slope Native American Resource Center and the Ute Indian Museum for doing the legwork of bringing together dancers, drummers, vendors, and guests. Guests can attend the Pop Wow for free, but donations are welcome.
The Montrose County Event Center is located at 1036 N 7th Street in Montrose. Parking is free for the event.
Heritage, History, and Shared Future
If you live in Western Colorado, accept the invitation to learn more about the region’s story from the people who wrote several early chapters. The Pow Wow is a great way to recognize indigenous voices and our shared future in the Uncompahgre Valley.
