Perhaps the state dog of Colorado should be a great breed to take with you on the hiking trail. Some of the best hiking companions are breeds like Alaskan Malamute, Australian Shepherd, Bernese Mountain Dog, Border Collie, Labrador Retriever, Rhodesian Ridgeback, and Siberian Huskies. In the Centennial State, we've made it possible for several fur babies to be considered the state dog of Colorado. Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill in 2013 officially declaring all sheltered dogs as state dogs of Colorado. So the next time you visit a pet shelter, know that those are the official cats and dogs of the Centennial State. Even if some of them are not from Colorado.
