Colorado Rockies’ Star Dante Bichette to Speak at JUCO Banquet
Former Colorado Rockies star Dante Bichette has been tabbed as the keynote speaker for the 2017 JUCO World Series banquet.
For seven seasons, Bichette played for the Colorado Rockies and was part of the famed "Blake Street Bombers" that included Vinny Castilla, Larry Walker, and Andres Galarraga. Bichette was a four-time All-Star during his 14-year career- which began with California and Milwaukee. He retired in 2001 after brief stints with Cincinnati and Boston.
Bichette's best season for the Rockies was in 1995 when the moved into Coors Field. Bichette hit a walk-off home run to beat the Mets on opening day and went on that year to bat .340 with 40 home runs and 128 RBIs, narrowly losing the MVP vote to the Reds' Barry Larkin.
The annual JUCO banquet that kicks off the tournament each year will be held April 26 at Two Rivers Convention Center. Tickets are $50 each and will be available starting April 3 at the JUCO office at the Home Loan Building at 205 N. 4th Street. The JUCO World Series will take place May 27- June 3 at Suplizio Field.
