Ah, I love love.

What better way to close out the month of love, February, than with an adorably unusual, yet epic love story (which, spoiler alert, ends in a proposal) that comes right out of the local community?

Meet Sydney Ortega - earlier this month, Sydney, who currently serves as a volunteer for the victim services unit and a full-time records technician for the Greeley Police Department had gone into work to report for her first volunteer shift of the new year.

As far as Ortega was concerned, there weren't any unordinary occurrences during her volunteer shift that would've possibly made her suspect that Monday, Feb. 7 would be the day her life would change forever.

Not even receiving a call about a suspicious death could give the anything-but-ordinary afternoon surprise away; according to the Greeley Tribune, Ortega's long-time boyfriend, Andrew Brown, a police officer currently serving with the Garden City Police Department connected with Ortega's supervisors at victim services to pull off the proposal of a lifetime.

How It All Went Down

With the help of the Greeley Police Department's Victim Services team, Brown initiated his epic proposal to his now fiancé in the form of a fake death-related call - Ortega's least favorite call to respond to (another reason why I'd imagine she really didn't suspect anything to come of that unbelievably unexpected afternoon).

Sydney was ultimately sent to investigate the [fake] call; it was once she arrived on the scene that her skepticism started to rise.

“There were no police cars or flashing lights, but usually there are,” Ortega told the Greeley Tribune.

“All the other supervisors were there with cameras and then Andrew came out of the truck and I’m like, ‘Wait a second, you lied to me, you said you had court."

Earlier that day, Brown reportedly convinced Ortega to take on her shift that day because he would "be in court all day."

Ortega described experiencing instant tears as Brown pulled her into the street, a rose in hand and a beautiful view in the background.

On Monday, Feb. 7, Sydney Ortega said “yes” to the man of her dreams.

The lovebirds, Ortega and Brown first met through the Explorers program hosted by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, which, according to Brown, is similar to a junior deputy program. The couple also participated in the Honor Guard together.

Their love story began back in 2015; at the time, Ortega was a sophomore in high school and Brown was just beginning his college career. Brown continued down the law enforcement path and received a criminal justice degree from Aims Community College before going into the police academy.

When he joined the academy, Ortega was entering her senior year of high school. The two took a break from their relationship for about a year, before ultimately finding their way back to one another.

You know what they say, what's meant to be won't pass you by.
