Driving US 6 in Palisade? A New Roundabout Is on the Way
Ever gotten stuck in traffic on US 6 in Palisade trying to leave the Peach Festival? You are not alone. This stretch of the Grand Army of the Republic Highway has been flagged for safety and congestion issues for some time, and now a fix is officially underway.
CDOT is building a new roundabout in Palisade at US 6 and Elberta Avenue. Keep scrolling to see how a new roundabout at this busy intersection will smooth traffic flow, reduce serious crashes, and improve safety along the corridor for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians on the Western Slope.

The new Palisade roundabout on US 6 will cover the area between Rupp Avenue and Iowa Avenue. This means roadwork will impact traffic on US 6 just east of Palisade High School all the way down to the Spoke and Vine Hotel. Both the Grand Valley Bank and Palisade Pharmacy will be in the heart of the construction zone at Elberta Avenue. Work will include frontage road changes, new sidewalks, and fresh pavement markings at the end of the project.
How the Roundabout Works and When Construction Happens
What’s the next question we are all asking? Yup, how long will this be going on for? CDOT estimates the project will run through October. This means the road work will be in place for the 2026 Peach Festival. Road work zones will be active weekdays from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. Area businesses should be able to remain open during the construction.

Palisade was recently voted the coolest high desert town in America. As this community grows, space is limited. US 6 through Palisade connects neighborhoods, wineries, and the heart of downtown, so safety upgrades here are important. CDOT says this project will fix long-standing traffic issues at intersections packed too closely together and reduce speeds on US 6 between downtown and Palisade High School.
