Hopefully, you are one of the more than 73,000 Coloradans set to be getting paid more.

It seems fitting that it is Labor Day weekend when this news comes out. The Department of Labor has decreed a new rule that will put more money in your pocket and more time away from the workplace.

You may have noticed your current workplace implementing a new policy for you and your co-workers the past couple of months. It involves now having to log and account for all of your work hours. It has happened here at my workplace. At first, I was offended. But, then I was told is just a way to see how this new law may affect employers.

Starting December 1, 2016, if:

  • You make less than $47,476 annually you must be paid for all of your overtime.
  • If you make more than that amount, your overtime will NOT count.
  • Salary threshold changed from $455 to $913 a week.
