Back in the day, there were more than a few of these hamburger joints that served burgers for very cheap. You could feed the whole family for just a few dollars. Today, just a few of The Original Hamburger Stands are left in Colorado.

When they were popular you would find them in buildings that were previously Wienerschnitzel locations, the classic "A" frames. Finding one of those "A' frame Hamburger Stands is still possible in the Centennial State.

The Original Hamburger Stand, now Hamburger Stand, dates back to 1982 when the parent company of Wienerschnitzel decided to get into the burger game. They transformed their weaker-performing hot dog stands in the southwest area into hamburger stands- The Original Hamburger Stand. They painted the buildings black-and-white, and the wrappers were black-and-white. It was "no frills" cheap/generic burgers and fries.

Interestingly enough, Colorado, Arizona, California, Colorado, and Wyoming were the only states that had The Original Hamburger Stand locations; and today there is still at least one location in each of those states. Once upon a time, there was one on College Avenue in Fort Collins back in the '80s where The Post Chicken and Beer sits today.

HOW CHEAP WERE THE BURGERS AT HAMBURGER STAND?

When they first started out, they were only 25 cents. I remember it was a "big deal" when the price went to 29 cents. Of course, today, they do not sell burgers for anywhere near that rock-bottom price.

In the 1990s, The Hamburger Stand changed it colors from just black-and-white to bright colors and started taking on a new persona: More like "regular" hamburger joints. Today, a price of a burger is about $2.29 - the ".29" referencing those cheap burgers of yesteryear.

HOW MANY HAMBURGER STANDS DOES COLORADO STILL HAVE?

Of the 13 (total) Hamburger Stand locations across the country, Colorado has the most, with six. Arizona has four, California has two and Wyoming has just one, in Casper.

WHERE ARE THE SIX HAMBURGER STANDS IN COLORADO?

Technically, one could say that none of these are the Original Hamburger Stand: Black-and-white, .29 burgers.
