Motorcycle deaths in Colorado have reached an all-time high.

There were 605 traffic fatalities in Colorado in 2016. Of that total, 125 were motorcycle deaths - an all-time high, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. It's more than any year on record, and the number of motorcycle deaths has increased each year for five consecutive years.

Two things that could help reduce that number involve helmets and alcohol. CDOT says most of the cyclists involved in fatalities last year were not wearing helmets. Additionally, nearly one-third of all fatal accidents in the state involved alcohol.

So far in 2017, just two motorcycle deaths have been reported in the state. With the weather starting to warm up, though, you can expect to see more bikers on the road. Let's all do our part to help keep these two-wheel riders safe from harm.
