A Colorado man has died after being run over by his own car.

The man, who was killed Tuesday (Jan. 23) was identified as 76-year-old Robert Mitchell of Pueblo.

According to reports, Mitchell was trying to move his car in the driveway so his wife could get her vehicle out of the garage at their Pueblo home. Apparently not getting the parking brake set, Mitchell was either knocked down or fell down and the car backed over him.

Mitchell co-founded the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo Museum in 1985.

It's a grim reminder of how quickly bad things can happen. It could happen to anyone anywhere. Just remember to be careful whenever you get out of your vehicle and double check to make sure it's in park.
