Driving and looking at the leaves changing color is nice, but take a hike and get down into it.

We have talked a lot about the changing colors and how neat it is to drive around and look at them, but what about those of us who want to hike?

We are in luck because of course there are quite a few hikes we can take.

Cathedral Lake Trail-Aspen/Snowmass

Take the Castle Creek Road past Ashcroft Ghost town to find the trailhead. And once you do, prepare yourself for immersion into the vibrant fall colors you came to see. The first 3/4 of a mile you get to walk through an amazing aspen grove that opens up into the Maroon Bells/Snowmass wilderness area. Quite a few switchbacks and some serious hiking is involved, but the view of Cathedral Lake and Cathedral Peak is amazing. One you really have to see for yourself.

Crater Lake

This is one breathtaking hike. You might have to work a little bit for the views you really want to get, and there may be a lot of people already on the trail, but you won't care. Being set in the middle of beautiful fall colors will keep you, and your head spinning. Go early enough you may be sharing the trail with a moose or two. Bonuses galore on this trail.

Jud Weibe Trail-Telluride

One of the most popular hiking spots for locals, and easily accessible this trail has some exceptional views and just a quarter mile from the Aspen street trail is a cutoff trail that will take you to Cornet Falls. Leaves changing colors and a waterfall. Heaven.

There are so many beautiful places in Colorado, head out to your favorite.
