Cyclists Can Now Ride The Nearly Complete Colorado Riverfront Trail
Colorado's Riverfront Trail has come a long way since it began in 1987. That year, Mesa County and Grand Junction formed the Colorado Riverfront Commission. The group was charged with completing a proposed 28-mile Rivertrail connecting Loma to Palisade.
While there is still work to be done before the project is complete, it is possible to enjoy a nice bike ride over most portions of the planned route.
The Grand Valley's Riverfront Trail
As the summer of 2025 gets underway, the trail is nearly complete. With a few minor detours, it is possible to ride from the Kokopelli section in Loma to the Clifton Nature Park and Trail. The 2024 Riverfront Trail connection agreement has allowed for the purchase of property that will connect Las Colonias Park and 29 Road. This makes the missing link between Clifton and Palisade the final section.
Riverfront Trail: Loma to Grand Junction
From Loma, you can ride the Kokopelli and Little Salt Wash portions of the Riverfront Trail to Fruita. Between Fruita and Grand Junction, the trail features the Monument View and Connected Lakes. Reach downtown Grand Junction/Las Colonias for a well-deserved bathroom break with several places to stop in this section.

Riverfront Trail: Grand Junction To Clifton
Biking from Las Colonias to Clifton will mean traveling East on C½ Road to 29 Road. Turn right and keep an eye out for the trail on your left. If you get to the Colorado River, you missed it. From here, you can follow the trail past Corn Lake and into the Clifton Nature Park.

Riverfront Trail: Clifton to Palisade
Until the final connection can be made between the Clifton Nature Park and Riverbend Park, bikers can follow a number of routes from the nature park to Palisade.
