Colorado's Riverfront Trail has come a long way since it began in 1987. That year, Mesa County and Grand Junction formed the Colorado Riverfront Commission. The group was charged with completing a proposed 28-mile Rivertrail connecting Loma to Palisade.

While there is still work to be done before the project is complete, it is possible to enjoy a nice bike ride over most portions of the planned route.

The Grand Valley's Riverfront Trail

As the summer of 2025 gets underway, the trail is nearly complete. With a few minor detours, it is possible to ride from the Kokopelli section in Loma to the Clifton Nature Park and Trail. The 2024 Riverfront Trail connection agreement has allowed for the purchase of property that will connect Las Colonias Park and 29 Road. This makes the missing link between Clifton and Palisade the final section.
