Colorado Winds Reach 110 MPH Thursday Between Boulder and Golden
Having just flown back over the Front Range for the holidays I have a new appreciation for the winds you encounter when flying over the mountains.
Yesterday, I experienced my first flight from Denver to Grand Junction, and had it been delayed one more day, I could have been trying to fly back this morning during an incredible wind event.
Extreme Winds Reported on Colorado's Front Range Thursday Morning
Year after year, there are 5 to 10 places in the state that see some of the highest wind speeds year after year. This area between Boulder and Golden is usually a part of the top ten every year for the strongest winds.
Colorado Winter Winds Reach 110 MPH Between Boulder and Golden
The National Weather Service in Boulder has reported two incredible readings today, that both happened between 9 am and noon today. These incredibly strong blasts of wind happened at the intersection of Highway 72 and 93 between Boulder and Golden. Winds at this location reached 105 mph at about 9:51 am, then reached a speed of 110 mph about 11:30 am today.
Winter Storm Warning Issued for Grand Junction
The National Weather Service has also issued more advisories for the Western Slope today including a Winter Storm Warning for the Grand Valley. This warning remains in effect until at least 11 pm tonight.
