Yikes: TikTok Is Teaching People How To Steal Cars in Colorado
It's been relatively well documented over the course of the last several months that Colorado is performing particularly poorly when it comes to the number of vehicle thefts on a state-by-state basis, even ranking number one in the US for the highest rate of overall cars stolen in 2021.
But it's also been well reported recently that two vehicles, in particular, are being stolen more than others at the moment.

FOX31 in Denver reported that out of all of the vehicles stolen in the state of Colorado in 2022, a full one-third of the cars were Kias and Hyundais. The trend is the same nationally.

And the situation does not appear to be getting any better for owners of the Korean-made car company as the method used to steal the vehicles has been widely shared on social media, specifically TikTok, in what's known as the "Kia Challenge."
Videos have spread like wildfire showing why these particular cars are vulnerable and how to do it, even going so far as to encourage people to give it a try and post videos of the results. As if social media wasn't already responsible for so many other ridiculous things... now bragging about committing a crime is cool? What is the world coming to?
There is some good news, though. Kia and Hyundai have agreed to compensate owners of around 9 million vehicles in response to this trend. In fact, it's going to cost them around $200 million. You can find out all about it in a statement released by Hyundai and Kia.
Reuters reported the settlement will cover up to $145 million for customers' out-of-pocket losses. Kia and Hyundai said they expect the settlement will be approved in July.
