#5 The Fray
Colorado has always been proud of The Fray (formed in Denver) and founding members Isaac Slade and Joe King. While the line-up is different these days than it was when the two attended Faith Christian Academy in Arvada, the Fray remain one of Colorado's best-selling bands thanks to their killer debut album. 2005's How to Save a Life has sold more than 2 million copies to date
#4 Ryan Tedder (One Republic)
2002 was a great year for music in Colorado. That year brought us The Fray from Denver, and in Colorado Springs, we got OneRepublic. Frontman Ryan Tedder has helped to write chart-topping tunes for Taylor Swift and Beyonce, in addition to selling over 1 million copies of the OneRepublic debut album, Dreaming Out Loud.
#3 The Lumineers
Wesley Schultz (lead vocals, guitar) and Jeremiah Fraites (drums, percussion, piano) may not have been born in Colorado, nor did they grow up here. However, they started their band here. Their success has given hope to countless independent artists in Colorado hoping to follow in their footsteps. The Lumineers' 2012 debut has sold well over 1 million copies.
#2 Big Head Todd and the Monsters
Todd Park Mohr and the boys from Littleton, Colorado, started their band while attending Columbine High School in the early 1980s. The band also spent time together at the University of Colorado Boulder. The band has released 14 studio albums and is easily one of the best-selling homegrown Colorado bands still working today.

#1 Jazz Legend Glenn Miller
Alton Glenn Miller was born in Iowa in 1904. He moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado, with his father in 1918 before joining the football team at Fort Morgan High School. Miller would go on to attend the University of Colorado Boulder. Miller would soon be New York City-bound to become one of the most successful jazz musicians ever claimed by Colorado.
Miller’s recording of “In the Mood” was captured in 1939. The song became an anthem of the swing era and has sold millions and millions of copies. Royalties from plays of “In the Mood” would likely have generated millions of dollars for Miller through the years, with radio royalties, streaming, and movie and commercial licensing making Glenn Miller Colorado’s best-selling musical artist.
