It probably comes as no surprise Colorado Mesa University made the list of The Ten Best Colleges and Universities for Mountain Bikers. As a matter of fact, two Western Colorado institutions made the list.

For those college bound, the concern as to where you can get your "dirt degree" is a factor when choosing your school. Sure, you have important considerations like the school's reputation, location, cost, and areas of specialization. There is, however, this matter of cycling. Is it any wonder Colorado would make the list twice?

What factors did Singletracks consider when determining the best colleges and universities for mountain bikers? The criteria included:

  • The proximity of on-campus or close-to-campus singletrack for those without cars.
  • Quantity and quality of singletrack in the general area for those WITH transportation
  • Quality of collegiate racing team
  • Quality of the school's academic program (I was really hoping that would make the list)

Colorado Mesa University comes in second on the top ten list. Right behind CMU is Fort Lewis College in Durango.

Universities from Montana, California, and Idaho, along with a handful of others states, were also represented on the list.

Congrats to CMU and Fort Lewis for achieving such high placement on this list. That's one more thing these fine institutions offer prospective students.
