Grand Junction Police Department is encouraging you to collect a DNA sample from your child . . .

I remember when I was little they use to have finger printing stations at all the family festivals, as a matter of fact I think I still have my prints on file in my moms safe!

But with technology advancing, so has the way we keep tabs on our kids!

I came to work this morning and found these kits at our front desk from the Grand Junction Police Department . . .

The Child DNA I.D. kit contains:

  • Child I.D. Card
  • 4 Sterile cotton swabs
  • and a Ziploc bag

The idea is that you can collect your child's DNA sample at home, then store it in your freezer along with the I.D. card with all their pertinent info then, (God forbid) if it's ever needed the sample can be supplied to law enforcement.

Now prior to being a parent I would have yelled that the government was just trying to find a way to get a national database of people's DNA on file and this was just one step towards that end, but now that I have a child I think: it's better to be safe than sorry, and as step #12 instructs: Hope you never need to use the DNA kit again!

What about you? How do you feel about collecting DNA samples from our children? Join the conversation by taking our poll below!
