Celebrate President’s Day With a Look Back at Presidential Visits to Western Colorado
Happy President's Day! Over the years, more than a few presidents have made their way to Grand Junction. Here's a look back at various Presidential visits from the lens of late Daily Sentinel photographer Bob Grant.
Truman rolled through Grand Junction on a campaign stop in the 1940's. Note the banner for Grand Junction's KFXJ hanging by the Presidential seal.
Grand Junction residents came out to see the Truman as he headed West on the campaign trail. You'll notice the people in the audience went to great lengths to dress up for the occasion. Hey, we were just coming out of the Great Depression, so let's be nice.
Dwight D. Eisenhower visited Grand Junction back in the day when Uranium was the future of the valley.
Gerald Ford flew into Grand Junction on a frequent basis. No doubt he was on his way to a round of golf in Vail.
On this particular visit, Ford had the courtesy not to fall down the stairs while exiting the aircraft.
Ronald and Nancy Reagan stopped by Horizon Drive in Grand Junction in the early 1980s.
President George Bush stopped by downtown Grand Junction in 1991.
