Coloradoans went to the casinos in record numbers in 2018.

The casinos in Black Hawk, Central City, and Cripple Creek took in a combined $842.1 million dollars in 2018, exceeding the previous record of $828 million.

But it's not just in Colorado where gaming records are being broken.

According to the American Gaming Association, of the 24 states where gambling is legal in some form or another, 12 saw record years in 2018.

Nationally, all of the legalized gambling casinos brought in a record $41.7 billion in 2018, an increase of 3.5% from 2017.

Legal sports betting, available in many states but not Colorado are leading the way with betting income. Should Colorado follow suit and allow sports betting as well, it's assumed the amount would significantly rise in the state of Colorado.

The 1% increase in the amount that was taken in in 2017 is over 13% more than the next previous record year of 2014.

Will that number continue to rise? Based on recent events it looks like it will.
