Car Flies Off Highway 6, Plunges Into Eagle River
A car traveling on Highway 6 near Vail crashed through a fence and ended up in the Eagle River 750 feet from the highway.
The driver was seriously injured and stranded as his vehicle lay on its side in the river but was able to get out of the vehicle. He was, however, unable to cross the river due to his injuries.
The crash occurred when the driver crashed through the fence between the highway and the Eagle-Vail Golf Club and plunged down into the river. The driver, a 30-year-old male was able to get himself out of the vehicle and await rescue.
The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries as a result of the crash and the vehicle he was driving was left in the river overnight to make sure it could be safely removed in the light of day.
The Colorado State Patrol has not released the man's name at this time. They are also unsure of what exactly caused the accident or whether or not the driver was using excessive speed.
