Brett Young and his wife, Taylor Mills, are expecting their first baby together in the fall — news they shared with fans on Saturday (April 6), even though his wife is early in her pregnancy.

Backstage at the ACM Awards, Young explains their decision to spill the news in the first trimester.

"It's tricky because like not a lot of people like to talk it, but the first trimester is touch and go," Young tells WGNA's Brian and Chrissy. "So you don't want to announce too soon, then have to be let down and let everybody else down."

The couple — who wed in November — will be hitting the red carpet together at the 2019 ACM Awards Sunday night (April 7), and the "In Case You Didn't Know" hitmaker and RISERS star knew it'd be obvious that his wife is expecting when she slips into her dress.

"At the same time, she's going to be wearing a red dress on the carpet and so better that you know before than after, ya know?" They talked about it beforehand and agreed that it was better to make the news known before the ACMs.

"It's a touchy thing and you want to do it right and there's really no right or wrong answer. But you just have a lot of conversations to figure out and we decided today was the day," he says.

The happy couple found out they were pregnant in early February. They had flown to Las Vegas over Super Bowl weekend to spend time with friends and family when Taylor decided to take a pregnancy test "on a whim," she tells People.

"We have always shared the same heart for wanting a family," Young says. "I love knowing that we get to give this little one an amazing life, and I just can’t wait for the future ahead of us as a family. We are so blessed!"

The 2019 ACM Awards are set to air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 7, at 8PM ET on CBS.
