If you have a non-committed hour in your day today (May 14) this is absolutely the best way for you to spend that hour.

Grand Junction's Stocker Stadium will be packed with Special Olympics Colorado athletes and their families for the Mesa County District 51 Track and Field event. If you have never experienced it, you must put this on your bucket list.

You can't help but get emotional when you see these special young people marching into the stadium like Olympic athletes. Each one has their own unique story, but what they all have in common is spirit, drive, and determination.

Following the opening ceremonies, these special athletes will compete in a variety of track and field events throughout the stadium. What a thrill for them to hear their name announced and to be cheered by a stadium of fans.

I realize it's likely not possible or realistic for most of to go spend the day at the stadium and cheering on these athletes. But, I can guarantee if you can find an hour in your day to hang out there, it will be time well spent. You will be inspired by these amazing individuals, and it may even give you a little different perspective on some of the issues and problems you may be facing in your life.

This is a great way to take some of your focus off yourself and make an investment of time in the lives of others. You won't regret it. The event runs from around 8 am until about 5 pm.
