For some, the new school year has already begun. For most, the first day is right around the corner, and The Salvation Army is holding it's annual Back to School Backpack Program for families in need of assistance for grades K-12.

The Salvation Army distribution process is very organized and deliberate, to ensure that families that are truly in need are able to receive assistance.

To receive assistance through the back pack program, families need to register in advance at the Salvation Army office at 1235 N. 4th Street. An I.D. will be necessary for everyone in the household, plus proof of income.

Registration is continuing this week through Friday  from 9:00am-11:30am and 1:00 - 3:30.  Families are given a pick up time for the back packs during registration.

Distribution will begin on Saturday, July 27th with the middle and high school students at a breakfast concert. Elementary school backpacks will be distributed starting Monday, July 29th. If you have questions you can call the Salvation Army office at 970-242-7513.

This program is a great example of how the Salvation Army is at work, helping those in need in the community all through out the year, and not just during the holidays, when they seem to be the most visible.
