Attempted Murder Suspect Identified as Colorado Escape Room Owner
The man arrested for the attempted murder, kidnapping, and sexual assault of a 16-year-old female has been identified as the owner of Estes Park Escape Rooms.
According to the Estes Park Trail-Gazette, 39-year-old Jacobo Wright Mendoza is currently in the Larimer County Jail facing charges of Murder in the First Degree (Attempted), Second Degree Kidnapping-Victim Sex Assault, Unlawful Sexual Contact by the Use of Force, and Assault in the Second Degree (Attempted).
Following the arrest, former employers of Mendoza told the publication that he was often around underage girls and prone to violent outbursts. Authorities have also executed search warrants at his home and at Estes Park Escape Rooms.
Officers became aware of Mendoza's alleged behavior on June 15, when a witness told the Glen Haven Fire Station that they saw him speaking with a female on County Road 43.
After realizing that the female was screaming for help, the witness began driving her to the fire station. Mendoza then crashed his black Chevy sedan into the witness's vehicle before physically assaulting the female.
The witness and a fire department member were able to stop and restrain him until officers from the Larimer County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) arrived. Authorities took Mendoza into custody and transported the female to a Loveland hospital to treat her for serious injuries.
Mendoza is eligible for a $500,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday (June 22) in Fort Collins. Due to the ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time.
