Atari U.S. is trying to break away from it's French partner Atari S.A. which hasn't been profitable in years.

This includes selling the rest of some of our favorite games like Pong, Cintepede and Asteroids. Under Chapter 11 they are selling "All or most of their Assets." The French based company Atari S.A. said that it hasn't been profitable in years and that its investors BlueBay has cut them off from any more funds after lending more than $27 million.

Jim Wilson, Atari CEO said: "In light of the current situation with BlueBay, we have decided to take what we think is the best decision to protect the Company and its shareholders. Through these ongoing procedures, and especially the auction process in the US, we will seek to maximize the proceeds in the best interest of the Company and all of its shareholders."

Though this is sad, Atari U.S. is breaking away so they can continue to do business with internet gaming and mobile games. Looking back, some of our best past times are with the Atari system.
