Major Snow Hammers Colorado’s Mountains Over the Weekend
A handful of communities in the south-central part of Colorado are enjoying significant snowfall here in late April. Salida, Fairplay, and Wilkerson Pass all woke up to snow conditions this morning, April 25, 2022.
The interesting thing about it, though, would be the surrounding communities. Gunnison, Salida, and Canon City all appear to be dry as a bone.
Seven Inches of Snow in Cascade, Colorado
A Facebook post went out this morning from Colorado Storm Chasers. They reported seven inches of snow in Cascade. Someone replied with the comment, "Closer to 9” between Woodland Park and Divide. Just what the fires needed…a good heavy wet snow!"
A little farther down in the comment section, someone added, "We got 16 inches here at our Ranch near Buena Vista." With that comment, I thought it would be fun to look around that region of Colorado. As it turns out, a few communities in close proximity to one another enjoyed (or I hope they enjoyed) considerable snowfall.
Looking Around The State of Colorado
While most of us in Western Colorado were getting our hair blown off and scurried to pick up our shingles out of the street, a few communities were enjoying heavy snow. Right now, 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022, Buena Vista, Colorado is enjoying sunny skies. According to the National Weather Service, tomorrow's high will be in the lower 60s.
Cascade, Colorado can expect a slight chance of snow today and into tonight.

Winter Can Be Weird in Colorado
I've lived in Colorado for 52 years, and to date, the worst snow I've ever witnessed was in the area near Avon, Colorado, on May 11, 2014. While planning my drive from Grand Junction to Nashville, I failed to take into account the possibility of whiteout conditions and the closure of I-70.
