Every once in a while, we can see the amazing beauty of nature, the Aurora Borealis, AKA the Northern Lights, here in the Grand Valley. But in Alaska and in the Northern Hemisphere, it's a much more common event.

Aurora Borealis, or the Northern Lights is named after the Roman Goddess of dawn- "Aurora" and the Greek name for the north wind "Borealis." So what causes this beautiful natural phenomenon? That's a bit harder to explain. But I'll try

Think energetic solar particles and atoms playing a gigantic game of bumper cars in the wind really high in the sky while the earth's magnetic field traps all the fun in a massive net. Watch the video and it'll make perfect sense.

All of that results in a multitude of colors dancing and moving in the night sky. Essentially it looks like giant screen savers in the sky. It's pretty wonderfully incredible.
