A Fort Collins Donut Shop Now Uses Straws Made from Avocado Pits

It's a mix between the most Colorado, and the most millennial thing ever – a Fort Collins donut company has decided to start using avocado-pit based straws, as a way to be more eco-friendly, like many restaurants are now making efforts to do.

Located in Fort Collins' newest area, The Exchange, Foco Doco, already offers customers creative donut choices, and now the chance to help save the planet too.

The avocado-pit based straws are made by a company out of Mexico, called Biofase, who has created sustainable, single-use cutlery options too. The avocado pits they use are byproducts from Simplot's avocado farms, which is also located in Mexico. Biofase claims that the straws made from avocado pits have a lower carbon footprint than any other comparable material, including paper. According to the company, it takes 240 days for the straws to biodegrade in natural conditions.

Several other restaurant chains across the country, such as P.F. Chang's and Chili's,  have started using the eco-friendly, avocado pit straws – and now locally with Foco Doco doing it too. In addition, the delicious donut shop will also be giving discounts to customers who bring their own reusable cups.
