A record setting Rock Jam is only days away, and it is time to establish the most efficient and cost-effective way to make it to the Jam, while preserving all the fun and good times that makes the event such a tremendous draw year after year.

One proven way to make the Jam even better is to ride the Shuttle, a service provided to transport concert-goers from the Grand Junction and Fruita area to the Jam and back.  Below are five convincing reasons to choose to ride the shuttle versus driving your own vehicle to Rock Jam Ranch.  Let's start with the more complex reasons, and work towards the more practical.

1)  Grand Junction to Mack, Colorado, equals approximately 20.7 miles.... approximately, as Mr. Spock would estimate.  In the state of Colorado, the average gas price as of August 22nd is $3.48 per gallon.  For our purposes, our test vehicle will be the Chevy Suburban, which averages 17 miles per gallon.  At that mileage, it would cost $4.25 in gas to drive each way to the Jam, at a total of $8.50 round trip.  This is, of course, before you pay the $10 fee for parking.  Your cost to drive your own vehicle to the Jam: $18.50.  The cost to ride the Shuttle: $10.

2) Should you choose to partake of some drinky-drinky, you run the risk of the good ol' DUI.  In the state of Colorado, the average cost of a DUI equals $10,000.00.  This, of course, takes into account the cost of bail, fines, fees, and an increase in insurance costs of $1,500.00 a year for a period of 3 years.

3) It has happened... as a matter of fact, it has happened to me..... you can very easily lose your car.  I've lost mine, and I work there.  Finding a Volkswagen Golf at 1 a.m. in the pitch black night sky of the Colorado desert is not an easy thing to do.

4) Let someone else drive.  You are, after all, there to relax.

5) When it is all said and done, the Shuttle is convenient for everyone.   It cuts down on congestion in the parking area, traffic, saves fuel, and is very -- let's just say, green.
