Update (1/7): Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez and Mark Wahlberg have also been added as presenters, according to Billboard.

The 2016 Golden Globes are mere days away, signaling the start of awards show season. Those of you who dutifully tune in each year already know what to expect from the upcoming broadcast: Heartfelt acceptance speeches (a la last year's standout from Gina Rodriguez), playful jabs at fellow celebrities (Taylor Swift vs. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler), generally lowered inhibitions from those in attendance and, of course, awarding the best in film and television.

But for the rest of you who are less well-versed in the show (or anyone looking for specific information gathered in one spot), we've compiled some of the more key elements to this year's 73rd Annual Golden Globes.

Comedian Ricky Gervais returns to the Golden Globes stage this year to host the show for a fourth time, the last of which took place in 2012. And in a possible attempt to garner low rumblings of pre-broadcast controversy, the awards show recently announced Mel Gibson as a presenter, despite his nearly-blacklisted status in Hollywood due to a string of public misbehaviors, the most damning of which saw the actor hurl racist and sexist epithets at former girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.

Other celebrity presenters who will hand out awards throughout the night include Amy Adams, Channing Tatum, Jaimie Alexander, Patricia Arquette, Jim Carrey, Jamie Foxx, Amber Heard, Bryce Dallas Howard, Kate Hudson, Helen Mirren, Julianne Moore, Eddie Redmayne, Kurt Russell, J.K. Simmons, and Olivia Wilde.

Most importantly, the Golden Globes -- while not as widely revered or esteemed as its sister show the Academy Awards -- is often a decent indicator of who will win a highly coveted Oscar, since the awards shows typically see similar nominations in their respective categories.

The ceremony, which is produced by Dick Clark Productions, will be broadcast live on NBC from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Sunday January 10 at 8PM EST.
