While walking the Audubon Trail this weekend, I encountered an inordinate number of walkers and joggers on the trail. As it turned out, they were enjoying a little exercise while simultaneously saving on their health insurance, by participating in their employer's vitality program. Would you like to see your employer start a similar program, and would you participate in it?

The people I encountered over the weekend were employees of West Star Aviation out of Grand Junction. As part of the program, the participated in the walk on the Audubon Trail starting out at the Redland's Albertson's.

Near as I could tell, they were on the honor system. There was no evidence of any sign-in, or anyone verifying that these individuals showed up to do the walk.

According to thevitalitygroup.com, "Vitality is an active, fully integrated wellness program designed to engage your employees on their Personal Pathway to better health."

Even here at the radio station, we have a similar program by which our employer provides gym memberships. Of course, radio DJ's are notorious for being among the most out of shape people on the planet. For the most part, if one of us actually manages to put on clean clothes and comb our hair before coming into work, it's pretty much a miracle.

The opportunity to have access to a health club has had a profound impact on my coworkers and me. I actually attended a Yoga class the other day. It wasn't pretty, but at least I attended.
