Are you heading into Grand Junction to attend a bike festival or marathon? Would you like to amplify your Western Colorado experience by enjoying a little camping?  Grand Junction is home to an event campground located in close proximity to several local events. Where will you find it?

Since it's a campground, obviously you won't find it in the middle of downtown. "The Camp" is located 171 Dike Road on the way to the Redlands. It's hidden behind the Albertson's shopping plaza at Broadway and Dike Road.

Google Maps

According to their web page, The Camp is an events campground and is open only during certain local festivals. The campground's calendar is available at their site.

As it stands now, it appears as though the campground has seen all the action it's going to see for 2016. At present, there are no other dates shown as open.

What kind of events does the campground open up for? In 2016, The Camp was open for the following:

  • MOGFEST
  • Fat Tire Festival & BMX Mile High Nationals
  • GJ Offroad
  • Ride The Rockies
  • Country Jam
  • Mesa County Fair
  • Tour the Valley
  • USA Pro Challenge
  • Palisade Wine Fest
  • Pro Rodeo Finals
  • Fruita Fall Fest
  • Octoberfest
  • Gear Down and Downtown Art Festival

Looking at the 2016 calendar, it appears the campground opens the day before an event is scheduled to begin, and closes the day after the event ends.

After looking around, it appears as if The Camp offers good old fashioned camping. You, your tent or camper, and that's it. No RV hookups are available.

I frequently walk my dog in this area, and over the course of the last year bumped into several campers staying at this site. They all seem to love it.

Are you heading into the valley for Country Jam in 2017, and would like a place to stay? Are you an active participant in some of the area's bicycle tours, and would enjoy a chance to camp while visiting Grand Junction? The Camp might just be the place you're looking for.
