This is not one of those polls or lists that you want to finish near the top. Colorado did not make the Top five, but the results did not exactly give us a reason to celebrate.

Colorado finished 12 out of 50 for the worst states for drinking and driving in this recent study by CarInsuranceComparison.com. Top 5 finished like this:

  • North Dakota
  • Montana
  • Idaho
  • Wisconsin
  • South Carolina

On the contrary, the bottom 5, where you want to be for this study, is:

  • Utah
  • Florida
  • Indiana
  • Georgia
  • Minnesota

Five different criteria went into this particular study. The people at CarInsuranceComparison.com took each state's number of drunk driving related deaths, the number of arrests, the state's penalties, laws and finally, the cost per fatality.

There is a much more detailed look at the research on this website. In fact, the numbers are all broken down state by state. Sobering article, no doubt about it. Please, don't drink and drive.
