Something is underway at the corner of 4th and Rood in Grand Junction. Are you familiar with the vacant lot next to the parking garage? What's underway?

I drive down 4th Street in Grand Junction several times a day. It was only last Friday, November 16, I noticed this sign. I parked near the garage and walked over to the tree lighting at 4 and Main. At this time, the site is nothing but a vacant lot covered in gravel. It looks, however, like something big is about to happen.

In this case, the word big might just apply. I called the number on the sign and spoke with a representative for the city. It seems a very interesting project is at hand.

The application for this site is for an "Urban Mixed Use Project." The 38-page project profile mentions a five story, or possibly even a seven story building, planned for the location. The lengthy profile mentions a variety of different functions for the structure.

It seems the proposed project will be a mixture of retail space and housing. There is mention in the report of 28 condos.

If you stop and think about it, there isn't much of anything in Grand Junction standing five stories. There's hardly anything at seven stories.

The application for this building is currently in its first round of review. The projected start time for construction is Spring 2019.

This could be interesting. For those of us whose commutes include 4th Street, it will be interesting to see the project as it develops.
