The Western Colorado Senior Games happen next month - and here's what you need to know.

The first thing you have to know is that you don't have to be a senior citizen to compete in the Western Colorado Senior Games August 20-26 in Grand Junction. Anyone age 50 and up is eligible to compete. That widens the field of competitors tremendously.

The second thing you need to know is that  you don't have to be a great athlete in order to compete and be successful at the Western Colorado Senior Games. While there are plenty of athletic contests that take place, not every event requires participants to have skills like the former Bruce Jenner.

Something else you need to know is that you will be competing against the same gender in your age category. In other words, men compete against men, women against women,  and no 50-year-olds will be competing against 90 year-olds.

You're not playing for prize money or trophies, but star pins will be awarded to the first, second, and third place finishers in each category.

Maybe one of these events is right up your alley.

  • Pickleball
  • Archery
  • Track and Field
  • Billiards
  • Dance
  • Pinochle
  • Cribbage
  • Bowling
  • Horseshoes
  • Golf
  • Swimming
  • Table Tennis
  • Bocce
  • 5K Run

You can find more information about the events and registration on the Grand Junction Parks and Rec website.

Whether you want to be a serious competitor or just looking to have some fun, you should consider taking part in this  year's Western Colorado's Senior Games.
