Grand Junction's 10th Street was transformed into a virtual playground during the 2nd annual Community Streets event on Saturday.

The event is put on by the City of Grand Junction's Urban Trails Committee and Healthy Mesa County to get families out and encourage them to be more active and offers a lot of fun activities.

What they do for this event is close down 10th Street from Main Street to North Avenue and the street is lined with booths, games, and activities for kids as well as adults.

There was a bike rodeo for kids, pickleball in the street, cornhole, a variety of games for kids, a giant chess game, community information, and live music in the park. Bikes were available to ride, and some food trucks were on hand for when we got hungry. I actually played pickleball for the first time in my life - and loved it.

One thing I noticed is that people of all ages came out for this. It wasn't just kids and young families. Hundreds of people came out Saturday to participate and the weather was fantastic. If you missed Community Streets this year, you should plan to bring your kids out next year for some free, healthful fun. They'll enjoy it and it will be great family time.
