The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for Grand Junction effective through midnight tonight (July 19). What does a Western Colorado flash flood look like?

Grand Junction and surrounding areas can expect heavy rain this afternoon and into the night. Isolated showers and thunderstorms are expected to continue through Thursday morning.

As you can see in this footage of a flash flood at the Colorado National Monument, the water and debris move fast, with very little warning.

What if you are caught off guard by a flash flood while in your vehicle? Here are a few instructions on how to escape.

This makes Grand Junction's second flash flood warning in two weeks. Even in the year 2017, we still have emergency alert systems broadcasting advisories and instructions over your radio. Keep your ears open for advisories when traveling the area during rainy weather. Keep it safe, Western Colorado.
