West Salt Creek Grand Mesa Danger Reduced

Residents in the West Salt Creek area of the Grand Mesa near Collbran can rest a little easier as the danger level of a landslide has been lowered.

According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, the threat level has been downgraded from a Level 2 to a Level 1 response meaning residents in the area no longer need to be prepared for immediate evacuation.

Experts say the area has remained stable and with the runoff from melting snow past its peak, the area is more able to handle a large surge of water.

The area is still considered dangerous and remains closed as the possibility of a landslide still exists. Salt Creek Road will remain closed, except for local traffic.

Officials will continue to monitor the area and will increase the alert level if the West Salt Creek landslide area becomes unstable.
