Looking for a quick, but somewhat demanding trail in Grand Junction? Next time you're out at the Lunch Loop trails, check out Hop, Skip and a Jump.

This is a fairly new trail or at least a new addition, that was opened last year. I recently found it and really do enjoy it.The way that I take it is to start on the restroom side of the parking lot. The way that I take it is to start on the restroom side of the parking lot. Soon, you will hit a three-way intersection, stay to the left, By the way, get used to the saying "stay to the left." This trail follows alongside Monument Road. It is fairly flat and smooth, with a few rocky, hilly sections, but it's no big deal.

Another intersection awaits you and guesses what? Stay to the left. Eventually, you will hit a small patch of hardwoods where you'll see the "Bobsled Turn." I call it that because it looks exactly like a bobsled turn. This turns you around but also sends you climbing. The grade seems gradual, but if you are running, your legs and lungs will feel it.

That's where I stay left and meet up with the Yes N Dee Dee trail. Follow that to the top and across some smooth rock where you will come across another three-way intersection. I stick to the middle, the Big Sister trail that takes you around to the all familiar red clay switchbacks which will lead you back to the parking lot.

In total, it's a 1.7-mile loop. I love to use it as a warm-up or a cool-down run, depending on what my other workouts are. Even for a hike, it's a decent workout, but, next time, run it and you'll thank me later!
