The 20th anniversary of the Rose Hill Rally is coming up Sunday, May 1, 2016, but the time to start training is now. The event features both a 50K and 100K bike ride through beautiful Western Colorado. While this may sound like a pleasant little Sunday ride through the country, the reality is you should start getting in shape right now. Here are the top five reasons why.

This event is open to cyclists of all ages and skill level. There is no race associated with the rally. Put simply, you get together with other fun loving people, and partake of a great ride, all while supporting the Rose Hill Hospitality House at St. Mary's Hospital.

So, why should you begin training now? There are several reasons. These are the top five:

  • 50K equals 31 miles. 100K equals 62 miles. If you've been, shall we say, dormant over the winter, you might want to get in a few lengthy rides prior to the event.
  • Your bike may be in need of a little TLC. The non-cycling months may have left your bike in need of some lube, a little extra tire pressure, and maybe an adjustment or two.
  • A refresher course might be in order to get yourself back up to speed on the rules of the road.
  • It might be wise to get a few rides in with your cycling buddies. When the rally rolls around, you might want to organize a group.
  • The weather in Western Colorado is great and very cycling friendly. Don't wait until the first of May to get in a ride.

You can preregister for the Rose Hill Rally now, or walk up registration is available May 1 from 6:30 am to 9 am.

In the unfortunate event you suffer a flat or other mechanical failure during the rally, minor bike maintenance is provided along the route. Support vehicles also survey the rally's course, and refreshments are available along the way.

What if you're not an avid cyclist, but would still like to participate. Walkers are welcome, with walk-up registration from 9 am to 10 am. Walkers can enjoy an easy 5K, with the option of repeating the course should they desire. Like the bicycle portion of the event, this is not a race.

Start your training now. Don't get halfway through the ride and cramp up. If your bike needs a little love, now is the time to find out. Fire up the bike, get in a few good rides, and make plans to attend the 20th annual Rose Hill Rally.
