The local, state and national elections are just over 6 weeks away, and you should be seeing your 2016 State Ballot Information Booklet from the State of Colorado in your mailbox. This means you need to stop listening to all the negative political ads and read up on the issues and candidates.

Many people say they are tired of the games that republicans and democrats are playing and that they don't want outsiders messing in the state's issues. With the free booklet, you are able to read the information in black and white and make a decision based on what you know, not what you hear. The booklet is rather large this year and is over 100 full-size pages long and is also available online. That is a lot of information to read and process before November 8th.

There are a number of amendments to the Colorado Constitution on the ballot, a few propositions to change the way we do some things in Colorado, and judges that are up for retention in the courts. We must be informed on the issues in order to make sure our opinions and desires are fulfilled after the elections.

The amendments include:

The ballot also has three new Propositions to consider:

The back of the booklet has information for the retention of Judges that will be on this year's ballots.

The best way to be a conscientious voter is to be an informed voter. Look into the issues, the candidates, and their character, and choose what you feel will best serve your beliefs and wants. Even for the Presidential race, there are three candidates, Gary Johnson, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton on the ballot in all 50 states, so you do have choices to make, and you need to keep yourself informed.
