Things to do Before Leaving for Vacation [LIST]

The Grand Junction Police Department has put together a short itinerary of things you should do before leaving for vacation. Chances are you do most of these, anyway. Still, it's worth taking a few moments to brush up on some of these precautions.

Are you looking to get away for a few days when Fall break rolls around for School District 51? Many people are, and it's a safe bet the criminal element knows it. Consider these suggestions from the Grand Junction Police Department.

• Buy a light switch timer
• Be careful about what you post on social media
• Have your mail and newspaper put on hold, or have a neighbor pick it up
• Don't leave a spare key hidden outside your home while your gone
• Be sure to lock your house up

Most of the tips offered by the GJPD are obvious, but then again, have the potential to slip your mind when you're in a hurry to get out the door. Have a great trip, and rest comfortably knowing your home is safe.
