Taking a Selfie with Your Ballot is Illegal in Colorado
Not only are selfies rapidly becoming an exhausted and tacky fad, in some cases they can be illegal. If you're a Colorado resident, you might want to think twice before capturing that perfect selfie with you and your election ballot. To do so would be more than just a social faux pas.
Officials in Colorado would like to remind you that posting a selfie of your completed ballot to social media is a crime in the state of Colorado.
No voter shall show his ballot after it is prepared for voting to any person in such a ways as to reveal its contents.
Is Colorado the only state getting its panties in a wad over ballot selfies? Not hardly. Why all the fuss? The policy is in place to protect against voter fraud.
Take pride in your right to vote, but keep it under your hat. Your choices are yours to enjoy. Does it belong on social media? In a word, no. According to the Denver District Attorney, to post your ballot on social media is punishable as a misdemeanor.
