As we look forward to St. Patrick's Day (March 17) you may also be looking for the elusive pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. You'll likely find it at your local pub and you're probably dropping gold into the pot rather than taking it out.

According to a report published by MSN Money, Americans celebrating St. Patrick's Day will spend about $255-million dollars on just their bar tab.

Based on statistics from the National Retail Federation, the average person will spend $35-$40 for everything St. Patrick including clothes, decorations, food and beverage. That adds up to a whopping $4.8-billion.

While young adults will be dropping the most gold on the holiday, over 30-percent of all Americans plan on dining and drinking out.

Local law enforcement agencies are looking to fill their pots with gold, too. So, don't make the mistake of getting caught 'green behind the wheel.' A designated driver or cab is a great way to keep some of that green in your pocket and prevent you from being locked up with some other unlucky leprechaun..
