Should You Spank Your Child As A Form Of Punishment?

I can remember being spanked as a child and I did come out all right. My mother never spanked me just my Dad. I can remember my Mom being very upset when I would get a spanking. I don't think I have any long-term harmful effects. There are many parents who don't believe in spanking a child.
However, nowadays it is very debatable, should you or should you not spank your child? The bible says spare the rod and spoils the child, but we don't know if it is literal. There are many theories on this.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics which represents about 67,000 doctors are warning of spanking a child as it could lead to harmful effects down the road.
