Read this rant I found on the website Craigslist for the Western Slope. It got my attention.

How often have you wanted to reach out to someone less fortunate than you? In my case, I have wanted to and actually have done it quite a few times. But, when hearing a story like this, it makes me sick.

This comes straight from the Rants & Raves section of the Western Slope Craigslist. It seems that a good-hearted Grand Junction citizen ran into the wrong couple to try and help.

The story goes something like this. The author came upon what he or she thought was probably a homeless couple. With all the empathy that a person could muster, this person offered the apparent down and out a couple a shower, a night out of the cold and a home-cooked meal. That is a pretty generous undertaking. But, as they say, no deed goes unpunished, Sort of.

Two days later, while at work, this good Samaritan received a phone from a neighbor stating that their home was being broken into. The neighbor called the police and thankfully officers arrived in time to place two suspects in custody. Wanna guess who was breaking in? Yup, the two 'despondent' people that the author took into his own home and fed and housed them for a night. Good grief.

Doesn't exactly fill your heart with warmness, does it?

"I actually did offer a despondent couple a shower, a night out of the cold and cooked them a homemade hot meal. 2 days later my neighbor saw them breaking into my house while I was at work! She called the cops and me, I got there in time to have them arrested. They owned a fairly nice vehicle that was loaded up with my stuff. Fool me once, but not twice."
