See the World from the Back of a Grand Junction Mariachi Band
What does the world look like when you're sitting in the cheap seats in the back of a Mariachi Band? Grand Junction's Mariachi San Jose played an event last night, and I felt it was time to give you a "behind the scenes" view of life in a Mariachi.
Okay, so I was the guy in the band who whipped out his cell phone and took a pseudo-selfie from my spot in the guitarron section of the group. Guilty as charged. In any event, this is what I see for a few hours a night. Enjoy.
Do you know what is so awesome about playing in musical ensembles? THE GLAMOUR!!!
This particular version of Mariachi San Jose consisted of 12 players:
- 1 guitar/vocal
- 1 lead vocal
- 3 trumpets
- 4 violins
- 3 guitarron
Last night's (Wednesday, November 9) concert was an homage to Juan Gabriel, a well known composer who passed away recently. The concert, held in the Grand Ballroom at the CMU Student Center, featured several selections, a portion of which were composed by Juan Gabriel.
- Canta Mi Son
- Pero No Me Dejes Nunca
- Viva Mexico
- Amor Eterno
- La Negra
- Besame Mucho
- La Diferencia
- Guadalajara
- Asi Fue
- Me Nace Del Corazon
- Siempre En Mi Mente
- El Pastor
- La Bamba
- Cielito Lindo
Many thanks to the faculty and students at CMU for the use of the hall. Be on the lookout for a mariachi group making their way to a venue near you.
